Veterans Memorial Stadium: Home of the Cedar Rapids Kernels

The current Veterans Memorial Stadium opened in April of 2002, and is the third facility that professional baseball in Cedar Rapids has called home. The stadium has seating for 5.300 fans, not including standing room only areas, and features 12 diamond suites and three picnic/group areas. A six story LED video scoreboard is the centerpiece of the stadium, and dominates the right-center field view. The 30 x 48 foot LED board provides live action, instant replays, player statistics and more.

Fan comfort is paramount at Veterans Memorial Stadium as fans with seats in the Premier and Club seating areas enjoy box-style seats complete with cup holders. A spacious 32-foot wide main concourse helps to relieve congestion on busy game nights, and several concession stands throughout the stadium get fans served and back to their seats as quickly as possible. A closed-circuit TV system displays game information on several TV's at each concession stand so fans miss as little of the action as possible while waiting for service.

Planning for the new stadium began in the mid-1990's to replace the existing Veterans Memorial Stadium (now the main parking lot). The original stadium was built in 1949 and served the team well through the 2001 season, a total of 52 years! Veterans Memorial Stadium hosted the MWL All-Star Game in 2004 and 2016, and the American Legion World Series in 2006, in addition to concerts and high school and amateur baseball games. Starting in 2019, the stadium will host the NCAA Division III Baseball World Series. Over 80 extra events each year have more than 250,000 people visit Veterans Memorial Stadium each year.

The first recorded professional baseball stadium was Hill Park, located just to the north of the current Roosevelt Middle School. Professional baseball was played there until suspended in 1942, due to World War II, and after the war games were played at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Kernels and the Cedar Rapids Ball Club, Inc., welcome you to Cedar Rapids, and Veterans Memorial Stadium!
